Holocaust Remembrance Day

Today, on Holocaust Remembrance Day and 80 years after the liberation of Auschwitz, we honor the memory of the six million Jews and millions of others who were murdered during the Holocaust – Roma, LGBTQ+ individuals, people with disabilities, and political opponents. This day reminds us of what can happen when hate is normalized and the importance of always standing up against injustices, no matter when and where they occur.

Unfortunately, we see that anti-Semitism is increasing in Sweden and globally, while other forms of racism and discrimination are ongoing in our time. As a student union, we want to emphasize the importance of creating a safe and inclusive environment on our campus, where we treat each other with respect and commitment to human rights.

We encourage all students, PhD students, and staff to use this day for reflection and learning. We need a campus where everyone feels safe, where we treat each other with empathy, and where we collectively stand against racism, anti-Semitism, and all forms of discrimination.
