Welcome to Academic Pride!

Between August 5 and 7, you can participate in this year’s Academic Pride. Academic Pride is a collaboration between SUS, Stockholm University, as well as other universities and student unions. On August 5, there will be a seminar on the topic: “Language as a tool for breaking the gender binary”. Student Association Rainbows will also arrange pride activities on August 6–7.

SUS is proud to participate in Academic Pride. We want to see an increased understanding in society of LGBTQIA+ people’s rights, and Pride is a yearly occasion when we can focus on those issues, within the academy as well.

On August 5 focus will be more specifically on how our language affects gender binary mindsets in society. Researchers Elli van Berlekom (Stockholm University) and Amanda Klysing (Lund University) show, based on current research, how small variations in language can have large effects on how people interpret others in terms of gender and how people are affected by the language used to describe gender. The seminar takes place on Zoom and in Pride House. Read more about the event on Facebook.

On Friday August 6, the student association Rainbows also arranges a digital self-expression hangout with other LGBTQIA+ student associations in Stockholm. On August 7, Rainbows hosts a digital film screening of the movie Pride.
