“Stockholm University Student Union firmly condemns these apparent crimes against humanity”

In the beginning of October, SUS’s presidium made a statement in support of the students and citizens who are protesting for human rights in Iran. The protests begun after Mahsa Jîna Amini passed away after having been arrested by the morality police in Iran. An arrest that occurred only because she wore her head scarf in a way that according to the morality police is against the Iranian regime’s forced hijab regulations.

Students have been in the forefront of the protests, which have often occurred at different campuses in Iran. During the last couple of days, we have been reached by information regarding that participants in these protests have been executed by the Iranian regime. Stockholm University Student Union firmly condemns these apparent crimes against humanity.

Through this statement, we would like to repeat our support of the protests. All human beings have the right to decide over their own lives and freedom of speech must be protected. This week, SUS has taken the initiative to support the formation of a student union association that will work to draw attention to the protests in Iran. For more information about the association please contact SUS’s Projects and Events Developer.
